The Nome Children's Home was established by the Nome Community Center to fill a need for temporary and transitional housing in the Bering Straits Region. The Nome Children's Home provides overnight respite care of youth for families in crisis.
The goal of the Nome Children's Home is to allow children to remain in their region when a local foster home in unavailable. This reduces stress on the child, and opens possibilities for family visits with the child. The unit is Level 2 residential, where each child has a 90 day limit of stay.

Kids will always be kids. They like to do things like walk to get ice cream and go to the movies. Although these needs may seem trivial when compared to the transitions they are experiencing, these small things still mean a great deal.
Gift certificates to Subway, Airport Pizza, and Bonanza Express as well as movie passes are always appreciated as special gifts to the children.
Because children are welcomed into the Children's Home on a variety of circumstances, many times they are also in need of personal effects. Donations of clothing, pajamas, and winter or wet weather gear are always appreciated.
Bring your donations to the Nome Community Center Offices, 505 West 3rd Ave, and indicate the Children's Home as the recipient of your donation. Check out our donations page for more information or to make a donation online.
